The Old Glenmark Vicarage

The Old Glenmark Vicarage, a historic New Zealand landmark in the heart of the Waipara Wine Valley produces a trio of distinctive fruit driven boutique wines.
The Vicarage’s boutique vineyard was planted in 1999 with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. The vineyard flanks the entranceway into The Old Glenmark Vicarage and is sited on part of a prehistoric lake-bed with distinctive clay and limestone soils. The Teviotdale Hills provide shelter from the cold easterly winds helping create ideal conditions for producing quality fruit and wines.
The Vicarage’s unique label is also one of a kind, a quirky talking point at dinner parties or friends pondering the intriguing family ~ The Wicked Vicar, The Vicar’s Mistress and The Divine Daughter.
Built in 1907, The Vicarage is a beautiful example of late 19th century architecture set amongst 100 year old trees and established grounds. There are two choices of accommodation available.
The Vicarage Barn – private, rustic, idyllic. Fully fitted out for fun-filled self-catering including all modern facilities, private spa pool and outdoor swimming pool.
The Old Glenmark Vicarage – homestay in the historic Vicarage, all rooms with private en-suites.

Muddy Water

Muddy Water was planted in 1993 in Omihi as a pioneer grower in the area. It was the first certified organic vineyard in the region and grows ungrafted Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. Muddy Water also produces a small amount of award-winning Pinotage and skin fermented Pinot Gris.

From the outset, the mantra has been “Hand-Crafted – No Compromise”.

The winery is constructed from straw bales to take advantage of their natural insulation qualities.

The Third Man

The 3rd Man was founded on the belief that Waipara is one of the world’s great wine regions. We partner Waipara’s finest vineyards with the most talented young winemakers to produce wines that reflect the unique characteristics of the region and its people. All wines are limited in quantity, accentuating the finest qualities of the vineyards and the people who make them.

Waipara Valley is a region that is unique in its expression of wine’s European origins. We choose to accentuate balance over power, natural acidity, and elegance.

In the winery, we craft our wines using artisan techniques using only wild yeasts (from the winery and vineyards) and making our wines in small batches with care. We allow time for the wines to ferment, avoiding harsh extraction, and allow extended time on lees for development. The result is wines that are not big and obvious, but have depth and complexity in flavour and enjoyment, each a unique representation of vineyard and season, an expression of people and place.

The Boneline

The Boneline is our watercourse to strange pasts
The river and the permeated landscape
The charcoal poem of ancient bones
The fossil’s hieroglyph
A deep and local telepathy of watercourse and strata
Wine grown on the shoulders of giants
Made here with humility and heart

The Bone Line. Named in reference to the nearby K-T Boundary line that is evidence of the global catastrophe of an asteroid impact on the earth and the end of the Mesozoic Era and the extinction of the dinosaurs. Each of the wines’ labels features fossils discovered in the Waipara River dating back as far as 65 million years. The labels thus bear a tangible connection with the land on which the fruit is grown, old vines and the family partnership of Tutton Sienko & Hill’s growing experience.↓

The Boneline does not have tasting facilities but people are welcome to visit and purchase from the cellar door during working hours Monday through Friday. Visits, particularly for groups, are welcome but should be arranged in advance.

Fiddler’s Green

The Fiddler’s Green mission is to produce handcrafted estate grown wines of consistently high quality, style and elegance for the discerning consumer.

Situated on Georges Road, the vineyard announces itself to the world by it’s imposing double gates and entrance way. Olive trees line the driveway which opens up to a Mediterranean style wine sales building set amongst the vines.

The vineyard comprises a total planted area of 13.3ha (30 acres) in five grape varieties: Riesling, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. It is a superior vineyard site located on a north-facing terrace overlooking the Waipara river. The climate of the Waipara Valley is typified by hot dry summers and long autumns which yield grapes of intense flavour and optimal ripeness.
